Reno, Nevada since 2011
Born From DIY, Built for Bold Print.
We started as a band, a basement show, and a box of shirts that made a dollar each. Fifteen years later we print for artists, galleries, makers, and brands who would rather be remembered than blend in.
If it needs to be seen, remembered, and talked about, that’s the kind of thing we want to print.

How we got here
A one dollar profit margin and a stubborn idea.
Nobody sat down and drew up a business plan. It grew one favor at a time.
2011, the basement show
Back in the olden days of yore, Maurice and his band ordered some shirts from a buddy’s shop in Portland. After printing, shipping, and selling the shirts at a basement show, the return on investment was about a dollar per shirt. Not a great ROI.
So we bought our own press
Deep in DIY culture, they picked up a six-color screen press with all the fixins, and with it, a decent printer.
Word got out
Artist friends soon found out Maurice had this printer and started saying things like “I have a gallery submission, can you print this photo?” or “Can you make a few prints of this painting?”
The dumb mistake
Maurice then made the dumb mistake of telling Megan this could turn into something that actually helped artists. A way to get work out into the world in a form that could be seen, touched, sold. Maybe a small retail space to sell these art prints.
Megan, who was looking for a change of pace from the daily electrical grind, took the idea and ran with it.
Today, a 50/50 shop
Art reproduction was originally the only thing we planned to offer. Then artist clients started asking for more commercial items for conventions. Banners, business cards, stickers. Today, Pitch Black Printing Co. is roughly a 50/50 split between artist services and commercial printing.
We draw in commercial clients because we approach every project from an artist’s point of view. In crowded industries where everyone’s fighting to be noticed, we focus on telling a clear visual story and helping people actually stand out. We’re really here to make you unforgettable.
Who you’ll meet here
Four people, one press room, zero middlemen.

Megan
Co-owner, overall brains, professional plate-spinner
Megan is usually the one answering your emails, walking you through specs, and helping turn “I kind of have an idea” into something we can actually print. She cares a lot about clear storytelling, realistic timelines, and making sure artists and brands feel elevated and amplified.

Maurice
Co-owner, print nerd, resident tinkerer
Maurice is the person obsessing over ink density, registration, and why that one weird file is behaving badly. He grew up in DIY music and art scenes, so he’s very at home troubleshooting strange projects and finding ways to make unusual ideas work on press.

Anna
Production and prepress
Anna keeps production moving and your projects on track. She’s often the one handling prepress checks, catching little issues before they become big problems, and making sure what leaves the shop actually matches what you imagined. If something needs a careful eye, it usually ends up on her desk. And don’t get her started on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Camryn
Art reproduction and photo restoration
Camryn sits on the artist side of what we do here. She focuses on making your reproductions and photographs feel true to the original, whether that’s a painting you poured yourself into, a gallery piece that needs to translate to print, or a photo tied to a specific memory. She handles art reproduction and digital photo restoration with the kind of careful color and tone work that keeps your work feeling like your work.

What matters to us
Off the screen and into the world.
We started this shop to help artists get their work off the screen and into the world, and that’s still the center of everything we do. We care about bold, authentic print that feels like you, not like it rolled off a generic template.
We believe small runs, weird ideas, and brave visuals deserve the same care as big corporate jobs. We’re rooted in Reno, loyal to our community, and serious about craft: sharp detail, rich color, and prints with personality.
