What if art could capture the feeling of a half-remembered dream? 6:00 pm, February 15th, entering the town of Reno is Angie Terrell’s newest solo exhibition Twin Peaks: Season 1. Terrell, a local artist and tattoo apprentice at Seven Swans Tattoo is showing off her interpretations of David Lynch’s iconic series that inspired an entire generation of otherworldly dreamers. As we said a tearful goodbye to David Lynch at the beginning of this year, the good townspeople of Reno are encouraged to participate in this unique opportunity to take a few steps back in time and across the divisions of reality to the little town of Twin Peaks. (It’s 5 miles south of the Canadian Border, 12 miles west of the state line.)

Terrell is a painter and printmaker based in Reno, NV. Her work is deeply influenced by the rugged landscapes and untamed spirit of the American West. It’s easy to see how the character of Nevada’s land and her work as a Tattoo Apprentice present thematically and visually through her work.

Her passion for traditional techniques and experimentation with new mediums drive her evolving artistic style, which merges fine art, tattoo culture, and surrealism.

Terrell draws inspiration from the local landscape and the rough-and-tumble spirit of the West. This environment has shaped her creative approach, giving her a deep appreciation for both natural beauty and gritty, unconventional art forms. Inspired by David Lynch (surprise), tattoo art, and the Northern Renaissance painters and engravers, Terrell’s work offers a unique blend of orthodox tradition and unearthly applications that transports the viewer into another plane of reality entirely while preserving the comforts of iconic and familiar imagery.

Angie’s work in Twin Peaks: Season 1 embraces themes of mystery, nostalgia, and the unknown—qualities that resonate deeply with the world of Twin Peaks. The duality of her work and background reflect the duality of the world of the series. In this body of work, she explores layered imagery, bold compositions, and intricate textures that echo the eerie yet beautiful aesthetics of David Lynch’s universe.

Through the darkness of future past, The magician longs to see. One chants out between two worlds…
“Fire… walk with me.”

We know Twin Peaks to be a quaint town with uncanny undertones. There’s always something happening in the wings that we can’t quite place a finger on. Terrell’s pieces reflect the welcoming warmth of the Great Northern Hotel while depicting characters caught in the midst of a secret or a dream. Laura Palmer’s classic features gaze out at us with frozen skin, caught in plastic and trapped behind a pane of glass.

If given a choice, Terrell prefers to work in paint. She says, “It’s incredibly versatile—you can create any style on any surface. The sky’s the limit.” Terrell says learning new techniques and trying new mediums keeps her artistic process fresh and engaging. New mediums include a slate of wearable and permanent art. Terrell’s flash sheets of Twin Peaks imagery are both intricate and whimsical (and ready to be tattooed).

Twin Peaks: Season 1 is open in the Pitch Black Gallery until Wednesday, March 19th, with an opportunity to meet the artist and chat about the work at a public reception on February 15th, 2025 at 6:00 pm. Walk the line between worlds and explore Terrell’s work in person.
It’s iconic, it’s crazy, as Special Agent Dale Cooper would say, “It’s some damn fine artwork!
